Beliefs

All UEC Churches have strong Evangelical beliefs. The UEC is part of the mainstream Protestant denominations, and below is a summary of beliefs held by member’s of the UEC.

  • We believe in God.
  • We believe in the unity of the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead of the Trinity.
  • We believe in Judgement.
  • We believe that all men are sinful from birth, as Scripture declares.
  • We believe that God justly punishes man for his sinfulness and rebellion.
  • We believe in Salvation.
  • We believe that the forgiveness of sin and freedom from its power is only possible through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
  • We believe salvation was purchased for mankind by the voluntary sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross.
  • We believe that through the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross and acceptance of salvation through Him that we are adopted into God’s family of Christians throughout.
  • We believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross, but death could not hold Him and He rose again after three days as promised in Scripture.
  • We believe that Jesus now intercedes for believers in heaven.
  • We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will return again to judge the living and the dead and to establish the rule of God in His creation.
  • We believe in the Holy Spirit.
  • We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts people of sin, leads them to Jesus for salvation and lives in all believers, guaranteeing by His presence that they belong to God. He draws them closer to God in prayer, guides them to live God’s way, leads them into all truth and helps them witness.
  • We believe in the Bible.
  • We believe in the Divine inspiration and infallibility of the Holy Scriptures, as originally given; and its absolute authority in all matters of faith and practice.
  • We believe that the Holy Spirit keeps Scripture in believers’ hearts so that they do not sin against God.
  • We believe in the Church.
  • We believe that ‘Christ is head of the church, his body, of which He is the Saviour’.
  • We believe the church should devote itself to teaching, fellowship, communion and prayer.
  • We believe that all believers are adopted into God’s family, the church, (both local and world-wide) and have God-given gifts and talents.
